Community Ministry

The Tuality Community of Christ seeks to raise awareness of community needs and often partners up with other organizations to meet these needs. This allows the church to share Christ’s message of love, hope and peace in meaningful ways. Topics falling under community service include Home Ministry and Care, Peace and Justice Ministries, Outreach International, World Hunger Emphasis Day, Teddy Bear Sunday, etc.

Home Ministry & Care

Home ministry is a service available for those who are unable to come to church due to poor health, or for those who have a particular need such as emotional support, spiritual advice, or questions regarding stewardship. This ministry is available for anyone who requests it and will involve a home visit by priesthood members. It also involves the serving of communion to shut-ins.

Peace & Justice

The Community of Christ promotes Peace and Justice Ministries. The goal of this ministry is to develop an awareness of issues of injustice such as intolerance of free worship, physical and mental abuse, and denial of basic human rights. Peace and Justice also focuses on developing peaceful relations among nations, people, and religions. Once an awareness for this ministry has taken hold, the congregation can take concrete steps in order to promote peace and justice in the local community as well as abroad.

Outreach International

The Community of Christ is affiliated with Outreach International, a human development agency striving to alleviate the injustice of hunger, poverty and disease in the world. The vision of the agency is a world in which each person experiences dignity and self-worth; where security, justice and equality of opportunity exist for all. Some of the local efforts of the Tuality Community of Christ have included the financial support for an impoverished school in the Dominican Republic, ,the purchase of working cows for families in Zimbabwe, and participation in a school lunch program and portable water supply service in Bolivia.

Community Services

World Hunger Emphasis Day
September 1st: On this day, the focus of the worship service will be on world hunger. An offering will be gathered to provide resources to support programs such as Outreach International which are involved in eradicating world hunger.

Teddy Bear Sunday
One Sunday each year, members of the congregation are asked to bring stuffed animals to church which are donated to the local fire department. The animals are used to comfort children who are faced withtrauma and tragedy. The results of this endeavor have be very successful, as each year there seems to be more and more animals!

Community Food Drives
The Tuality Community of Christ participates in a variety of local food drives. These food drives are undertaken throughout the year, though many include a specific seasonal focus, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Portland Rescue Mission
Members of the Tuality Community of Christ, along with members of the Portland Community of Christ , offer their services to the Portland Rescue Mission each month. Volunteers help serve dinners to the homeless and impoverished members of the community. Come down, help out and meet some great people.
